Password & Passphrase Generator
Strong random passwords and easy-to-type passphrases, generated with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator. Nothing is stored, logged or sent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this password generator safe to use?
Yes. Passwords are created in your browser with crypto.getRandomValues using rejection sampling, so every character is equally likely. Nothing is sent over the network, saved, or put in the URL.
How long should my password be?
For accounts protected by a password manager, 16 or more random characters (around 100 bits of entropy) is plenty. For a master password you must type, a 6–7 word passphrase is easier to remember at similar strength.
What is password entropy?
Entropy measures how many guesses an attacker needs: each bit doubles the work. A random password's entropy is length × log2(alphabet size); a passphrase's is words × log2(wordlist size).
Where do the passphrase words come from?
The EFF short wordlist (1,296 words, CC BY 3.0 US, Electronic Frontier Foundation), designed for words that are easy to type and hard to confuse.
